Choi Hee-seo’s Acting Journey

Choi Hee-seo came to acting in 2006 in the independent film The importance of Talking Together. She later appeared in a series of short films and independent films such as Fellinirama (2008), The Passerby (2010), Group Study (2010), Tokyo, Lost (2010), The Moon Stalker (2011), Mark’s Festival (2011), Heart Beats Knock Knock (2011) and Nanjian Wanzi (2012). Despite having starred in independent films, Choi Hee-seo was only given minor roles and supporting roles when she hit the corner of commercial films. In 2009, she appeared in the movie Lifting, King Long. After that, she then participated in the movie 577 Project (2012), It’s Time to Love (2013), and Love Never Fails (2015). Only when she was given a small role in the hit movie Okja (2016), her career sharpened. She was finally recruited by the Korean top director Lee Jun-ik to appear in the critically-acclaimed movie Dongju: Portrait of A Poet (2016). After 8 years in the industry through independent films and small roles, Choi Hee-seo gained much recognition when she got a series of important awards in her career. She received the title of ‘Best New Actress’ and ‘Best Actress”‘awards at the 54th Daejong Awards – which were considered the Oscars of Korea. Then, she continued to win the ‘Best New Actress’ award at prestigious awards ceremonies such as The Seoul Awards and the 38th Blue Dragon Awards. After her impressive appearance in the Dongju: Portrait of A Poet (2016), Choi Hee-seo continued to work together with Lee Ik-jun’s next movie Anarchist from Colony (another title: Park Yeol; 2017). Anarchist from Colony (2017) is Choi Hee-seo’s second big break after starring in the movie by the same director, Lee Ik-Jun, titled Dongju: Portrait of A Poet (2016). This movie has a historical political film genre and was based on real characters in history. The movie premiered in South Korea on June 28, 2017, and became one of the most successful and representative Korean movies in 2017. The film is continuously named at prestigious film awards ceremonies in Korea and international film festivals. The movie plot revolves around independence activist Park Yeol (Lee Je-hoon) during the Japanese occupation of Korea in the 1920s and 1930s and the woman next to him, Fumiko Kaneko (Choi Hee Seo). Despite its historical setting with real characters, Anarchist from Colony offers a romantic comedy touch with the chemistry of the couple flies off the screen. In the movie, Choi Hee-seo plays the role of Fumiko Kaneko, a Japanese woman who has an anti-Japanese ideology and works side by side with Koreans in the independence movement. Together with Park Yeol, the couple participated in activities against the Japanese Imperial government at that time. Choi Hee-seo portrays Fumiko’s mischievous and funny personality perfectly. She even easily made her co-star Lee Je-hoon overshadowed. Her acting skills make the audience got caught up in every action and expression of Choi Hee-seo. On top of that, her Japanese fluency in the movie has made her convincing when she plays the role of a Japanese woman. Choi Hee-seo’s in the Movie Our Body (2018)

After successfully gaining recognition in Anarchist from Colony (2017), Choi Hee-seo continued her impressive acting by starring as the actress in Han Ka-ram’s movie, Our Body. There, she played the read role of a woman named Ja-young who encounters an existential crisis in her 20s until she stumbled upon a female runner and gained the determination to become like her.

After venturing into the film industry, Choi Hee-seo finally became one of the four lead characters in a sexy, steamy K-drama, Mistress (2018), about a group of 30-something women who are involved in affairs and got investigated for their husbands’ death. Choi Hee-seo is part of the leading actresses, Han Ga-in, Shin Hyun-bin, and Goo Jae-yee. She plays the role of Han Jung-won, a woman married to a famous chef who is having an affair behind her back. Choi Hee-seo’s Marriage

On September 6, 2019, Choi Hee-seo announced happy news for her fans. Through her Instagram account, Choi Hee-seo said that he would get married that fall, saying, “I’m getting married come fall. I wanted to get married. With my wedding, not even a month ahead, it was the time to tell those close to me about the wedding I carefully prepared for. Marriage is one thing that we have to be congratulated on in life. I’m holding a ceremony after I met someone I love to tell everyone I’ve decided to spend my life with him.” Choi Hee-seo married privately on September 28, 2019, to a man who is not a celebrity known as Ethan. It turns out, Choi Hee-seo chose several cities in Indonesia as the location for the honeymoon with her husband. Choi Hee-seo even shared her happy moments by uploading several vacation photos in Jakarta, Bogor, and Bali through her Instagram account. Now, even after 1 year, the actress still happily married to her husband, and she even did not shy away from sharing her love openly through her Instagram account, uploading a couple of moments like her first anniversary with the lovely caption like, “Love you my love 💕 Happy anniversary. ”  We are so glad to see her happy <3  

Choi Hee-seo’s 2021 Movie, Asian Angels

Choi Hee-seo is preparing to release her 2021 movie titled Asian Angels, directed by Japanese director Yuya Ishii. The movie centers around two families, each from Korea and Japan, who met in Seoul when searching for a shelter after being hurt by others. It has not been announced when is the movie’s official date released, but it is set to premiere in Korea in the first half of 2021. Wow, we can’t wait for Choi Hee-seo’s comeback on the big screen!
