Amber has an older sister named Jackie. Amber was cast from SM Global Auditions in Los Angeles, California, in 2007. She sang “Oh Heart, Please Stop Now” by MC. Max and “Left Heart” by K.Will. Amber’s specialty is rapping. She loves to play basketball. BTOB’s Peniel, Super Junior’s Henry, GOT7’s Jackson, Ailee, Miss A‘s Min, and SNSD’s Hyoyeon are her close friends. She really loves ddeokbokki and is allergic to mangoes but she can eat them. Amber had her solo debut on February 13, 2015, with the release of her first EP “Beautiful,” and the EP achieved second place on Billboard’s World Album Chart. Amber’s History as an f(x) Member
Amber started her career by joining a girl group belonging to SM Entertainment. Previously, in 2008, she auditioned at the SM Entertainment Global Audition in Los Angeles and became an SM trainee. After a training period of about one and a half years, she debuted as a member of the girl group f(X) on September 1, 2009. In her group, she was the main rapper, and she was the only member who appeared in a boyish style. They debuted with the single “La Cha Ta” on September 5, 2009, and f(x) held its first debut stage on Music Core. A month later, Amber and her group released their first single album titled Chu~♡ which contains three songs. And, in May 2010, they released the EP “NU ABO.” This song made it into Gaon Chart, but, unfortunately, that year Amber had to go on hiatus because of an injured leg. Amber and f(x) started to become more famous when they released their first studio album Pinocchio with the title track “Hot Summer” in 2011. Also, Amber returned from the USA after being sidelined due to her injury. In this comeback, f(x) managed to win a number of awards on Music Bank, Inkigayo, M!Countdown, and more. Amber’s other activities include singing a song for the original soundtrack (OST) of the drama God of Study in 2010 with Luna and Krystal. In the same year, Girls’ Generation (SNSD) held the Into the New World concert. Then, Amber got the opportunity to collaborate with Yur on the song “1,2 Step.”
Becoming a Soloist and Her Departure From SM Entertainment
In 2015, Amber officially debuted as a solo singer by releasing her first mini album Beautiful with the title track “Shake That Brass” featuring SNSD’s main vocalist Taeyeon. Then, in 2018, she signed a contract with an agency from the United States, Steel Wool Entertainment. She was promoted there through singing, acting, and video directing. Besides that, Amber also signed a contract with UTA to promote herself internationally. After that, she decided to continue her solo career and left SM Entertainment as well as f(x). On September 1, 2019, she decided to leave the group after 10 years of being together. On her social media, she announced that her contract with SM Entertainment had expired, and she didn’t want to renew her contract. Here is her post that she uploaded! She chose to stay with Steel Wool Entertainment and pursue her career as a soloist. And, it turned out that when f(x) (Luna, Amber, and Krystal) reunited at the 2019 SM Town Live concert, it was her last performance with the group before her contract was over. After officially leaving and running her career as an artist under Steel Wool Entertainment, Amber then released her second EP (Extended Play) on September 12, 2019, titled X which contains 6 tracks including “Curiosity.” And, here is the music video for “Curiosity!”

The latest news about this ex-f(x) member seems like quite a lot. First, in 2019, she released her first album in a pioneering career as a solo singer. She also recently starred in the movie Eagle and the Albatross that was released at the end of February 2020. In the film, she played the role of Jimin, an orphan who wants to become an accomplished golfer. Check out the trailer below!
Then, in the same year, Amber became a voice actor or dubber for the animation We Bare Bears: The Movie which was released on June 30, 2020. In the movie produced by Cartoon Network Studios, Amber dubbed for the character Jojo Raccoon. In the same month as the release of We Bare Bears: The Movie, Amber was rumored to be pregnant and set to give birth in September.
