Channi belongs to the Dalit Sikh community. He was born in the village of Makrona Kalan. He read law at Panjab University and has an MBA from PTU Jalandhar. He is currently pursuing PhD from Panjab University Chandigarh in topic related to Indian National Congress with Professor Emanual Nahar as his guide. He is married to Kamaljit Kaur and has two children. He was born and raised in Bhajauli, Tehsil Kharar, Punjab, India. His zodiac sign is Pisces. Mr. Channi is a member of the Indian National Congress. On 20 September 2021, he was elected the 16th Chief Minister of Punjab. When he was in college, Charanjit Singh Channi was a member of PPCC (Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee) and the General Secretary of the Punjab Youth Congress. He was elected to the Punjab Legislative Assembly for the first time in 2007. In 2015 and 2016, Charanjit Singh Channi held the position of opposition leader in the Punjab Legislative Assembly. The father of Charanjit Singh Channi came from a very poor family in Punjab and went to Malaysia when he was a boy. He made good money there and came back to India as a wealthy man. As a child, Charanjit Singh Channi used to help his father as a tent boy when he started his own tent business in India. After winning local elections in his native village, his father served in a variety of capacities, including as a Sarpanch and a member of the Block Samiti. During his academic career, Channi participated in NCC and NSS activities, debate competitions, and other cultural events. He was a national-level handball player as well as a gold medalist at the Inter-University Sports Meet during his studies at Panjab University. He is said to have been inspired to do well in studies by his older brother, who is known for his high academics. During an interview with a media outlet, Channi revealed that his elder brother earned these degrees while working as a government official. Charanjit Channi has a strong belief in astrology. He often does ‘weird’ things to stay relevant in politics, as he is often described by his friends. While he was serving as a cabinet minister of Punjab in 2017, he built an illegal structure outside his house, following his astrologer’s advice.
